UK court jails Nigerian seven years for rape

Lagos - A man convicted of raping a woman in her own home will be deported back to Nigeria after he serves seven years in a UK p
rison,the Guardianreports.

Judge Lynn Tayton sentenced Idreez Popoola in the Northampton Crown Court, Popoola worked as bouncer at a Northampton nightclub. He came to the UK in 2005, and should have been deported a year later after illegally staying in the country because of his visa had expired. Popoola met his victim at a fast-food restaurant and the made their way back to her house, he then made strong sexual advances before raping the victim. 

There are currently 534 Nigerians incarcerated in the UK. The UK recently signed an agreement for these prisoners to be sent home to serve out the remainder of their sentences. They will donate £1m (about N210m) to improve the prisons in a deal signed between the two nations.
